Phuket’s business community is thriving and the old town and tourist shopping areas have attracted not just investors from the Thai mainland but international brand names too.
Aside from hospitality, the island has become renowned as a water-sports hub with dive expeditions to the Similan Islands located in a national park that is set to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. PADI courses are also a popular pursuit.
Yachting is also prominent in Phuket. with many annual events bringing in the international yachties. These include the King’s Cup Regatta; Thailand Yacht Show; Phuket International Boat Show; The Bay Regatta; and Phuket Raceweek. Cruises, yacht charters and fishing are all big business as well.
